This is Simpson Bay on St. Maarten. Pelican Resort is the white buildings with the orange roofs. We have a condo in the middle set of buildings on the hill. The Flamingo Beach Resort is the blue white buildings on the right where our second condo is located on the extreme right, second floor. The Flamingo unit is about 25 feet from the water in the small bay. Deluxe condos are at the end of the building on the right with balconies overlooking the water. The larger beach is a calm swimming beach. When the hurricane was at its peak, there was no white sandy beach, but rather angry waves digging out the sand. The waves were crashing against the first floor sea wall. Many times the tops of the waves would splash over our second floor balcony and against the sliding glass doors.
